Rob Cornilles Statement on Scott Brown Election Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. – Rob Cornilles, Republican candidate for Oregon’s First Congressional District, has issued the following regarding Scott Brown’s election to the U.S. Senate seat held by the late Edward M. Kennedy:

"Tuesday’s historic win in Massachusetts for a Republican Senatorial candidate (the first since 1978) may be viewed as a statement about big government or oversized bills or deficit spending. But in the end, it's a reflection of Americans’ views across the country: End the partisan politics and backroom dealing, and let’s get on with the business of governing responsibly!

“I decided to run for Congress because I know Americans – and Oregonians specifically -- want a more balanced government with legislators working together to solve our complex problems. They are asking for new, energetic leaders who hear their voices and will help them overcome the specter of bigger government, higher taxes and fewer jobs.

“Like me, Scott believes the recent health care legislation that was rushed through both the House and Senate is too expensive, mandates too much government control and actually reduces quality of service. In a time of record deficits and unemployment (nearly 12 percent in Oregon), this is not something we can afford.

“Since one party alone cannot solve our problems, I call on the majority leadership to work together with Republicans and Independents to address the immediate needs of our country: Reform health care responsibly and reasonably; provide a better environment for job creation; and get our economy back on track.

"I am eager to roll up my sleeves and take my place at the table and do the right thing in Congress -- for Republicans, Independents, Democrats, and all Oregonians.”
